SHOWER
"Shower" is a music video helmed by director Chen Wu and producer Hsuan-Yu Lai, collaborating with Taiwanese musicians and a music producer. We perceive "rain" as a symbol of urban loneliness, offering both solitude amidst the chaos and a chance for introspection.
In the bustling modernity, especially in Taipei's humid, rainy climate, "rain" serves as a shared memory among people. To avoid clichés, we opted for creative animation, crafting a fantastical rainy adventure that captures the essence of the song. Upon hearing the piano, reminiscent of raindrops, I envisioned Edward Hopper's painting "Nighthawks," evoking a poignant sense of emptiness and allure.
Edward Hopper's lonely American contemporary life landscape has deeply influenced me. Taipei and Shanghai these two cities where I live are also due to excessive urbanisation. Although they have a large population, people are far away from each other.
I used some artificial symbols in the city as a metaphor, such as subways, zebra crossings, street lights and even windows in the cit to express the isolation of people and misunderstanding in modern city.
In cooperation with a music production studio from Taipei, we through music and animation to portrait a shared sense of lonely live in city that belongs to us. We chose melancholy black and grey as main color of the screen, with the rhythm of the music and the story, putting some red to highlight the warm and connection in rain. In the midnight rain of the city, we may be accompanied by a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, a cigarette or the bustle of the city. We shower with the lonely city.
